Autonomic Homes

Status: Research

Not a smart home. A home with a memory.

An Autonomic Home is envisioned as an environment that combines intelligence, sensing, automation and local context to operate more responsively, while people stay firmly in control.

The evolution

Connected home → Intelligent home → Autonomic home

Traditional smart homes connect devices. The CyberFoxX research direction connects intelligence, context and memory.

Example

“Turn on the kitchen lights.”

The lights turn on. Every request starts from zero, and often travels to a cloud service and back.

  • Follows explicit commands
  • No memory of preferences
  • Often cloud-dependent

AI Core

Status: Research

A locally hosted AI system, running on edge hardware inside the home, that interprets requests, reasons about context and proposes actions.

How it contributes

  • Runs language and vision models on household hardware instead of distant servers
  • Coordinates specialised agents for lighting, climate, security and reminders
  • Asks before acting on anything outside approved routines

Safeguard: Every automated action has a manual override and a clear way to switch it off.

Research and engineering areas

Ten areas we are working on.

  1. 01Local AI inference and intelligent agents
  2. 02Private household knowledge and memory
  3. 03Smart lighting and environmental control
  4. 04Sensor-driven automation
  5. 05Camera-assisted property awareness
  6. 06Local device orchestration
  7. 07Intelligent energy management
  8. 08Privacy-conscious security monitoring
  9. 09Multi-room interfaces and interaction
  10. 10Optional, explicitly authorised external integrations

Non-negotiables

Designed around people.

  • User control

People decide what the home does. The system suggests; it does not take over.

  • Safety first

Comfort and safety limits always override optimisation.

  • Manual override

Every automated function can be switched off or overridden by hand.

  • Privacy

Household context stays local by default.

  • Fail-safe behaviour

If the AI or network is unavailable, lights, locks and heating still work normally.

Imagining a more intelligent home?

We're open to early conversations with homeowners, builders and property operators who share our values. We don't sell installations today.
